POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Overview

Health related policies and procedures serve a number of functions within an organisation as they:

		demonstrate the organisation’s commitment to promoting good health;
		provide a framework regarding acceptable behaviour in the workplace (e.g. attendance management);
		ensure that employees are treated consistently and fairly;
		help protect the organisation against any legal action taken by employees.

Examples of health-related policies include:

		Attendance management (including rehabilitation);
		Mental well-being;
		Display Screen Equipment [DSE] Policy including implementation of regulations, purchase of equipment, reporting of upper limb disorder symptoms, and vision screening;
		Equal opportunities;
		Violence in the workplace;
		Drug and alcohol misuse;
		Smoking in the workplace.
